Wild Blueberry Jam Recipe

Making your own wild blueberry jam is a simple yet rewarding process. With just a handful of ingredients, you can create a spread free from preservatives and filled with fresh, natural flavors. It is simple, delicious all while being nourishing to the body.

Blueberries, especially the wild variety, are packed with antioxidants like anthocyanins, which give them their vibrant color. These antioxidants play a crucial role in supporting overall health by combating oxidative stress. When it comes to eyesight, blueberries truly shine.

Studies suggest that the nutrients in blueberries can help protect the retina, improve night vision, and reduce the risk of age-related eye issues such as macular degeneration and cataracts. Including blueberries in your diet is an easy way to support your vision naturally.

This homemade wild blueberry jam recipe is incredibly simple and requires just a few ingredients to create a delicious and nutritious spread. Whether you’re using frozen or fresh wild blueberries, you’ll love how easy it is to make.

Start by gathering about two cups of wild blueberries, which are packed with flavor and nutrients. If you’re using frozen berries, there’s no need to thaw them—just toss them straight into your pot.

Add a few tablespoons of water, the juice of half a lemon as well as some lemon zest. The lemon juice not only adds a hint of brightness but also helps the jam thicken naturally.

Place the pot on the stove over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking, and allow the berries to break down and release their juices.

As the mixture cooks, it will begin to reduce and thicken. This process takes about 15 minutes, though you can let it simmer a little longer for a thicker consistency.

Once the jam has reached your desired thickness, remove it from the heat. At this stage, you can stir in a teaspoon of pure vanilla extract to enhance the flavor. If you prefer a sweeter jam, add a drizzle of honey to taste, keeping in mind that wild blueberries are naturally sweet and may not need much. Alternatively, you can leave the jam unsweetened for a more tart and wholesome option.

Allow the jam to cool before transferring it to a jar. Store it in the refrigerator and enjoy it over toast, yogurt, oatmeal, or as a topping for desserts. This quick and easy recipe is a perfect way to savor the vibrant taste and health benefits of wild blueberries year-round!
