If you’ve been looking for a wholesome, hearty alternative to regular bread, buckwheat bread might just become your new favorite. Despite its name, buckwheat isn’t actually a type of wheat, it’s a naturally gluten-free seed that bakes beautifully and brings a rich, nutty flavor to breads. Whether you’re gluten-sensitive or just interested in diversifying your grains, buckwheat offers a satisfying texture and rustic taste that pairs well with both sweet and savory toppings.
Benefits of Buckwheat Flour
One of the standout benefits of buckwheat is its impressive nutrient profile. It’s high in fiber, which supports healthy digestion and keeps you feeling full longer, and it’s a good plant-based source of protein, including all nine essential amino acids. Buckwheat is also rich in magnesium, iron, and antioxidants like rutin, which help support overall wellness. Compared to refined wheat flour, which is often stripped of nutrients during processing, buckwheat provides a naturally nourishing option with more sustained energy.

This recipe will show you how to make simple, homemade buckwheat bread with minimal ingredients and no yeast. Whether you’re baking for health reasons or just love trying new recipes, this loaf is easy to make, easy to slice, and easy to love. Let’s dive into how you can bring this nourishing, earthy bread into your kitchen.
How to Make Delicious Bread with Buckwheat
To start, make sure to preheat your oven to 350 degrees and grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
Start by mixing your dry ingredients together, which includes buckwheat flour, baking powder and salt. Stir that with a fork or a small whisk until completely combined.

In a separate bowl combine your wet ingredients, some kind of non-dairy milk, melted butter, eggs or flax eggs for a vegan substitute, apple cider vinegar and honey. Whisk those ingredients until fully combined. Next, fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, and stir until it makes an even mixture, making sure to not leave any dry patches.
Once everything is combined, pour the mixture into your greased loaf pan, and spread the mixture evenly.

Place this in the oven and bake until a toothpick comes out clean and the top is browned, which should take about 50 minutes.

Once done baking, allow it to cool for a couple minutes and remove from the loaf pan. Top this with butter and honey for a sweet nutty snack or enjoy on the side with savory dishes!
