Assorted Citrus fruit on a cutting board

Citrus fruits are not only a burst of sunshine for your taste buds but also packed with health benefits that make them a must-have in any diet. Rich in vitamin C, citrus fruits are famous for boosting immunity, and improving skin health. But the benefits don’t stop there—citrus fruits are also loaded with antioxidants, fiber, and essential electrolytes, making them a great choice for hydration and overall wellness. In this blog, we’ll show you how to take full advantage of citrus by making a refreshing juice and a citrus jam from the leftover pulp. Not only will you be making use of the whole fruit, but you’ll also be infusing your diet with a powerhouse of nutrients.

The jam is made using the pulp of your citrus fruits, which is often overlooked but packed with fiber, vitamin C, and other beneficial compounds. By turning this pulp into a zesty citrus jam, you can create a nutritious spread that’s perfect for toast, yogurt, or as a topping for baked goods. The natural pectin in the fruit helps the jam set without the need for added artificial ingredients, keeping the jam as pure and healthy as possible. Meanwhile, the juice you extract from the citrus fruits becomes a refreshing, hydrating drink, brimming with electrolytes like potassium and magnesium, which help maintain fluid balance and muscle function—essential after a workout or on a hot day.

Together, the citrus jam and juice create a balanced, vitamin-packed duo that provides your body with the hydration, energy, and immune support it needs. Whether you enjoy a glass of fresh juice in the morning or a spoonful of citrus jam to start your day, these recipes will ensure you’re not only treating your taste buds to something delicious but also fueling your body with essential nutrients.

Assorted Citrus fruit with leave on a cutting board

To start this recipe, grab a bunch of fresh citrus fruits of your choice, I used oranges, grapefruit, lemons and limes.

Set up a fine mesh sieve over a bowl to catch the pulp and juice fresh citrus into a bowl. After everything has been juiced, add honey and ginger. This step is optional but I grated some fresh ginger for an extra kick and more immune boosting properties, as well as raw honey for sweetness and healing properties.

Mix to combine everything and transfer to a pitcher to serve. Add ice to a glass and serve! This drink is full of vitamin C and immune boosters white tasting super refreshing.

In addition to this, you can use the leftover pulp to make a citrus preserve. I added the pulp of the oranges and grapefruits into a saucepan along with a cup of water. Try to avoid as much of the pith as possible, as adding it in will make this super bitter!

Allow this to boil and break down the citrus. Mix occasionally until it becomes a thick jam consistency. If there are any pieces not breaking down you can pick them out as you see them. Once this has reduced, take off the heat and add honey to taste. If you prefer a smoother texture you can run this through an immersion blender to break it down a bit more. This makes a tangy preserve that is great with bread, added to a savory dish or served on a cheese board!
