A tincture is an herbal extract using alcohol. Historically fresh herbs picked at their peak of potency were used to make tinctures. To make a tincture, the herbs were soaked in alcohol for up to a year. The plants would disintegrate in the alcohol and form a residue of organic material on the bottom of the vessel.
