This protein smoothie was so delicious and easy to make. It left me full for hours and is packed with  21 grams of protein and great ingredients like pure cacao powder, rolled oats and the star of the show, irish moss.

Irish moss is actually a type of seaweed. Like other seaweeds it is very high in iodine which is really important for thyroid function and produces hormones that help to control your metabolism, bone growth and nerves. Iodine is also something many vegans and vegetarians are deficient in so it is important to supplement it.

Sea Moss Health Benefits

Studies have also shown that sea moss can help reduce fatigue and soreness after workouts which makes it a perfect post workout ingredient. Sea moss is also good for supporting immune health, gut health and healthy hair, skin and nails. 

Irish moss

You can also add sea moss to almost anything, smoothies are just a really easy and delicious way to incorporate them into your diet.

This smoothie was super quick and easy to make. I started with ¼ cup rolled oats and pulsed those in the blender to break them up before adding the other ingredients.

You can then add all the other ingredients in no particular order, which is one cup oat milk, 3 tablespoons almond butter, 1 banana, 1 tablespoon cocoa powder, 1 tablespoon ground flax seeds, 1 tablespoon agave, a pinch of ground cinnamon, about a handful of ice and ½ teaspoon of irish sea moss. 

 

Putting agave into a blender

 

Blend all that together until completely combined, should take 1-2 minutes. Poor into a glass and enjoy!

Vegan Protein Smoothie with Irish Sea Moss Recipe: 

Ingredients: 

  • ¼ cup rolled oats 
  • 1 cup oat milk 
  • 3 tablespoons almond butter 
  • 1 banana 
  • 1 tablespoon cacao powder 
  • 1 tablespoon ground flax seeds 
  • 1 tablespoon agave 
  • 1 pinch ground cinnamon 
  • 1 handful of ice 
  • ½ teaspoon irish sea moss 

Instructions: 

  • Pulse oats in blender for about 10-15 seconds to break them up 
  • Add to a blender oat milk, almond butter, banana, cacao powder, flaxseeds, agave, cinnamon, ice, and irish sea moss in no particular order and blend until completely combined
  • Serve and enjoy!
