According to the University of Maryland's medical center, the antioxidants in cranberries are capable of neutralizing free radicals, and it is these free radicals that are responsible for tampering with DNA, damaging cell membranes and causing cell death.

Cranberry extract benefits come from the flavonoids cranberries are packed with, which inhibit bad cholesterol, LDL or low density lipoprotein, protect against the development of heart disease and fight against oxidation.

In a 2001 study which compared cranberries to 20 other fruits, cranberries had the largest amount of both free and total phenols, far surpassing second-place red grapes.

3. Immunity Boost

Cranberries contain an antibacterial agent called hippuric acid which acidifies the urine. Combined with other compounds it reduces the ability of E-coli bacteria to stick to the walls of the bladder so it is just washed away with the urine. Since E-coli are responsible for up to 90% of urinary tract infections, the protection provided by cranberry is quite significant.

Cranberry has been observed to reduce the amount of the oral bacteria that cause dental plaque. Studies have shown that cranberry can reduce the growth of bacteria that causes plaque to stick to the teeth, preventing decay and gum disease.

4. Benefits the Digestive Tract

Another set of cranberry extract benefits is for people that have ulcers or that are susceptible to ulcers. H. pylori is a type of bacteria responsible for many different gastric ulcers, but it is believed that there are compounds in cranberries capable of helping to prevent ulcers.

According to the NIH, (National Institute of Health) there is plenty of scientific evidence saying that cranberries can reduce H. pylori's ability to survive inside of the stomach. You can research more about this subject in the case study from the GI Society.(8)

5. Heart Health

Cranberry may help to reduce high cholesterol levels - Cranberry studies show it can help to increase levels of HDL, (good cholesterol) and reduce levels of LDL, (bad cholesterol).

Inflammation can cause pain and misery, whether it is chronic or just symptomatic.

Cranberry supplements can help to reduce inflammation in your body and allow you to live your life with reduced pain and more energy. Studies have shown the anti-inflammatory properties of cranberry polyphenols.
